Why did you join the T.R.U.S.T.? To help myself and to help others to reconnect back into society, with the goals of improving self and community.
What does being a T.R.U.S.T. Fellow mean to you? It is an honor and it is very special to be a part of a great group of inspired men.
Since coming to prison, what have you accomplished? Patience, wisdom, appreciation of family and community, I have received a certifications in H.I.V. and Substance Abuse Training also received my G.E.D. with Valedictorian Honors, and also attending Patten College to receive my Associates Degree, and recently married.
What are some of your hobbies and interests? Reading my Bible, Ministry, writing, painting, and classical music.
What programs are you involved with other than the T.R.U.S.T.? I also teach a Self-Help class in the Stand Up Program called “Youth Out Loud,” and I am also a part of a Christian Ministry Bible Study group.
What kind of work do you do with the “inside” and/or “outside” communities? I teach Health education, self-Help class, to help young men paroling to be better aware of the choices they make. I also do outreach about H.I.V. and Hepatitis C and Drug Abuse.
How do you live up to the T.R.U.S.T. value system? How do you promote the ideals of the T.R.U.S.T. outside the workshops? My character, truthfulness, a man of my word, being on time for appointments, and being a loving husband and father.
What do you want to do after you parole? I will be helping young men in the Community to stay clear of criminal activity by establishing an after-school youth program for arts funded by a Non-Profit organization.
What are your long-term goals? My long-term plans include getting my Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. Also, reaching the whole Bay Area through the After School Youth Program and establishing a scholarship fund by donation from the businesses in the community in hopes of sending students to college, who have the drive to succeed through education.
Personal message to the outside community: Please never give up hope in the men who are deemed no good to society. We have the desire and wits to make our homes, family and community a truly better place. Trust in God and believe in his power. God Bless.
