David Albert Monroe Jr. Nickname: Romeo Age: 24 Paroling to: Sacramento, California Family: my wife Nicole
Why did you join the T.R.U.S.T.? I saw an opportunity to give back and help others, so I took it. And it’s been a great decision.
What does being a T.R.U.S.T. Fellow mean to you? It symbolizes change and growth, so it means just that to me.
Since coming to prison, what have you accomplished? I’ve accomplished my G.E.D., a trade in upholstery, tons of self-help groups, which have helped me in becoming a better person and an asset to the T.R.U.S.T. group.
What are some of your hobbies and interests? Working out, sports, writing love letters ☺
What programs are you involved with other than the T.R.U.S.T.? Vocational Sheet Metal, S.Q.U.I.R.E.S., College, Project Reach, No More Tears (Graduated), and others that I’ve already completed.
What kind of work do you do with the “inside” and/or “outside” communities? Besides the work I do with the T.R.U.S.T., I work with kids in a program called S.Q.U.I.R.E.S. where I am Vice-Chairman and in the Richmond Project, where we’re trying to curb the violence there.
How do you live up to the T.R.U.S.T. value system? How do you promote the ideals of the T.R.U.S.T. outside the workshops? Speaking good about the group, keeping the integrity of the group, and being a vital member in the marketing of the group.
What do you want to do after you parole? Start a family with my beautiful wife.
What are your long-term goals? To be a motivational speaker to youth upon release, start a family, and help my wife run a group home.
Personal message to the outside community: Remember that the people behind these walls are your brothers and sisters, your moms and dads, your cousins, and throwing away family is a waste.
