The men of the San Quentin T.R.U.S.T. for the Development of Incarcerated Men recognize that many of those returning to society from prison are doing so as liabilities to themselves, their families and their communities, instead of becoming assets during their incarceration. Upon leaving prison, the men are failing to successfully re-integrate into the family, community and workforce, resulting in their inability to maintain their freedom and fulfill their responsibilities to themselves, heir families their communities.
T.R.U.S.T. is an acronym for Teaching Responsibility Utilizing Sociological Training. The T.R.U.S.T. converts men in prison from liabilities into assets by conducting workshops that target the criminal value system. The T.R.U.S.T. believes criminal values lead to negative behavior. We therefore aim to replace that value system with a new value system that promotes positive life affirming behavior among the men in prison. The T.R.U.S.T. also sponsors cultural celebrations that promote and reinforce the T.R.U.S.T. Value System and T.R.U.S.T. Guiding Principles taught within workshop settings. T.R.U.S.T.-sponsored health fairs and fundraising events help the men to begin accepting and practicing responsibility for themselves, their families and their communities while they are still in prison.
The intended outcomes are that men leaving prison return to the communities to which they parole as assets. The men have a sense of responsibility and respect for themselves, their families and their communities, enabling them to become builders within their communities. They are also conscious of their health and civic responsibility, enabling them to successfully re-integrate into society and cease any criminal conduct.
